“That was close”, whispered Rahab. She hurried to where she had hidden the spies “You were lucky! Next time you won’t be if you continue hanging around here”. The tone of her voice made it clear that it was time for them to get out of the city. ”We must move! Let’s get out now. The Lord Yahweh will protect us, and see that we return safely”, replied the taller spy. A thought whizzed through Rahab’s head “He has full confidence in his God, that’s a rare quality for a man”. The Canaanite men she hosted in her abode displayed their devotion to their gods and their families in public, but she knew they were far more passionate about other matters in private. She made a living catering to those passions. Continue reading
We all know this story. Moses was wanted for first degree murder in Egypt. He had to flee to the wilderness where his father in law gave him a job to look after sheep. He was comfortable until the Lord interrupted his day job with a fiery appearance in a bush to deliver His assignment. His purpose was bigger than providing balanced meals to his flock. He was to deliver Israel from bondage. Continue reading

After showering and taking breakfast, several thoughts start piling in his head. “I can’t wait for the day I’ll be working for myself”. “I’ll be working in the industry I love, travel.” His face lights up as he daydreams about the day he’ll start his travel consultancy business. He walks to work with a spring in his step, his mind plotting on how he’ll set up his own firm, one where he won’t have to wake up early on Monday morning to go to work. A boy came rushing into the Bethlehem town square. He was obviously quick footed, as he had outpaced the runner who had gone to fetch him. He came directly to where Samuel was and bowed down in respect to the old prophet. Samuel inspected him. He smelled of sheep and his cloak was old and worn out, but that couldn’t hide the fact that he was as handsome and well-built as his seven older brothers who were standing nearby. “You must be David”, said Samuel. “Yes I am”. “Then let’s proceed”, said Samuel with a smile. “You’re the one I was waiting for.” Samuel took his horn and poured the oil on David’s head and spoke a blessing on him. He then proceeded to carry out the sacrifice hurriedly, knowing that the main reason for his coming was already complete. Continue reading
